I have been MIA in posting blogs because I just haven't been able to write them. I take the photos, keep sewing, and read everyone else's but can't write mine. I have been super fatigued since my second shot in early March and my mental energy is not right.
Alycia held the A12 mystery quilt recently and I finished my top. The last step was to put the side triangle alongside the churndash blocks. When I tried the dark blue, the quilt looked drab to me. I tried string piecing the squares to be cut into triangles, but I used reds and blues and it looked awful. I tried again using a variety of blues and it worked- I love the quilt now. I pieced the strings diagonally on newsprint, trimmed and then cut them into the triangles. I added about 1/2" extra and it made piecing the triangles easier. I staystitched all around because so much is on the bias or tiny pieces. Have to find a back now. Thanks, Alycia for another great pattern. If you read her blog, stop in and give her a word of encouragement as she just lost her mom.
Solid blue or mixed red and blue did not do it for me |

Hey Girl. It is so nice to see you posting again. I have been thinking about you a lot lately and wondering if you are alright. I have been feeling extremely tired also, and since I didn't take the shots, I am thinking it is from something else. Yours could be also. With the warmer weather, maybe we will be energized by the sun. I hope you feel better soon. Take care.
Those blue string pieced setting triangle really make your quilt top sing, Linda!! Kudos for not settling for just ok.
I agree - it's nice to see you posting again - and your string blocks really look good on your top! I'm glad you kept going until you found something that you liked - and am looking forward to seeing what you do for the back - ;))
You were right, that was the perfect fix for the setting triangles.
It looks great. I love your pieced stripes for the setting triangles. That was a great idea.
You nailed it on the setting triangles - it looks GREAT!
Nice finish. Sorry you've been having problems after the last shot.
Oh wow! Those strings really make your quilt shine beautifully. I too have not been blogging this week. My brain is still in Covid fog. I finally went to the doctor again this week. I FINALLY got steroids and antibiotics to fight the pneumonia part. He said I could let my body fight it by itself and it could linger for another four weeks. Or I could choose to take meds and try to get rid of it in a week. Really? Who would chose to keep it four more weeks. I don't get the logic. Today is day 4 of the meds and they are starting to kick in. Woohoo?
Oh Oh Oh!!! I LOVE those side triangles strings!!! Now I want to make it again and do that!! Spectacular!!
So sorry about your fatigue - that really sucks!! I hope it is better now, and that you are back in action!!
and Hugs - thank you
The string-pieced triangles are the perfect finish to your quilt top!
Brilliant way to finish. I love it!
Hi Linda! Great job on Alycia's quilt-along. I just love your triangle string pieces. What a great idea! I also love how you shared your process with us. Thank you also for the heads up on Alycia's Mom. I am so sorry you have had side effects from the second shot. One would have hoped they would have passed or minimized by now. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne
Love the blue string piecing Linda. I have also been MIA lately, too much happening on the medical side and I too am still not over the first Covid shot 10 days ago, I've been told the symptoms will be worse after the second one!! I do hope you improve soon, I have now caught up on your posts which I have missed, it's been lovely to read them. I'm glad you're still sewing!!
