Some quilt progress

Finally, the Red, White and blue quilt, 60 x 60, from the Cozy Quilt Pattern is done. I used the walking foot to do the straight line quilting in the diamond shape. I have difficulty with it because it has a tendency to put some pleats in the background fabric. I never have trouble when I FMQ. Any suggestions? I did the borders in free form red stars.

I layed out all the blocks for the diagonal variation using the animal skin jelly rolls and numbered all the rows and blocks. I have two of them to piece, but I only took a photo of one because the other was on the floor.

I also finished a half sheet watercolor painting of my hydrangeas in the snow.

I love the Hydrangeas in the snow. I left my blooms on the bush this year too.

What happens if you don't use the walking foot? Maybe you just need to sew it.
You could try a layer of tissue paper under the backing fabric and see if that helps. The pleats on the back indicate the back is stretching (bias) at a different rate than the front, so maybe stabilizing the back with the tissue will prevent some pinching. Its one of those things you have to experiment with before you find what works best; and what works for one project may not work for another.
(Yeah, that was helpful, huh?)

Hmmm, never thought to try it without the walking foot. Have to dig out tissue paper and give it a try on the next quilt.

Love your hydrangea painting too. Do you have a sight where you have a gallery of your water colors? I was always afraid to attempt water color - seems like a very exacting, unforgiving art form - unlike oil painting where if you make a mistake or don't like something you can just paint over it.

I have a lot of my paintings on my Flickr site. Watercolor is an unique medium. It gets overworked real easy, but it is just paper. I practice a lot and still take classes with a master painted. I get the look with watercolor that I cannot get in any other media. I like the colors, freshness, spontaneity, looseness and transparencies in watercolors.
