Sid's Trucks parked

A couple of weeks ago, I finished my grandson's quilt for his big bed. My daughter and Sid paid a quick visit a week ago and I was able to give him the quilt. He seemed to like it, especially the big dump truck on the back. I did not hear anything about it, so I asked and my daughter said he liked it on his bed. On Saturday, I was on my way home in Buffalo from a Quilters Gathering in Berlin, OH, so we popped in on our way back. I wanted to see the quilt on his bed, that is just the way that I am. When I went into his room, he had it backside frontside and upside down so the dump truck faced him. Well, I guess I can make them, but people choose how to use them. All that fussy cut fabric on the front did not impress him. This quilt is based on the Flight quilt that is enlarged to fit a twin bed.

The back in my plan, not in Sid's.

Details in top band, Clouds

Details second band- designed like tire marks

Details dark band- like truck tire tread

Details in next band, curls of dust. I have been saving that Richard Scarry
piece of fabric for years. Finally got to use it!

Details bottom band, mechanical shapes like pistons moving

Details where bands meet

I agree - we can make them - but they choose how to use them - and that may or may not match what we had envisioned. Even if it hurts our feelings that they don't appreciate all of the time and hard work we put into them - I guess what really counts is whether or not a quilt makes them happy - and Sid seems to be happy with it - so you done good, Grandma - ;))

My guess is that he is too young to appreciate the work you put into it. However, the big dump truck makes him happy so it is a win.

My great-nephew is in love with garbage trucks. I got him a Tonka garbage truck for his birthday recently. He loves it. Most little boys love those trucks!

Sid will grow into the front of the quilt - for now, the dump truck has his attention. It's all good! Marvelous quilting!!!!!!!

I think he will have fun looking at all of the blocks on the front in time. I find that non-quilters that I gift quilts too are sometimes more excited about the backs than the fronts. It's just all fabric prints to them, they don't always recognize the piecing.

I made a quilt for my son, when he got married. I'd cut some of the fabric late at night (bad idea) and cut the fabric the wrong size. I decided to use the wrong sized fabrics on the back of the quilt (two sided quilt). My son and his wife like the back of the quilt better than they like the front of the quilt. Go figure!
