My blogging universe

Greetings from Buffalo, NY and my little space in the blog world. I am a retired art teacher and totally immersed in quilting- for art, for comfort quilts, and learning to be a better quilter. Not so much a writer.
In the years I have followed and read blogs and then made my own, I have made great friends (met some personally), advanced my quilting/design abilities, and have had my life enriched by the lives of others.
I read a set list every morning, and it gets me energized and thoughtful from the start. I hope this blog has helped some people become better quilters or quilt thinkers. It is important to me to chronicle and communicate my artwork. I will never be famous or make money from my art. That is ok, I have readers and I follow some of the most excellent people on this quilt journey.
So when I received an invitation from Victoriana Designs to participate in a Quilters Meet and Greet on September 4th, I decided to try. I have no idea how it will go, and maybe I can gain a couple of readers and find some other quilters that I can relate to. I wish quilters had a site like Ravelry that knitters have.

Yesterday, reading Film in the Fridge, I saw a quilt that will help me with my scraps. I always cut 3 1/2" strips as per Bonnie Hunter's system, but they don't get used  much. I have tables in my garage filled with scraps that need to be processed as soon as it cools off so I tried her pattern with 3 1/2" strips instead of her 3" and it worked. No waste, easy pattern. I pulled a lot more strips from my 3 1/2" bin and figured it would take 18 sets WOF to make a decent lap size quilt. The blocks should finish at 9 3/4" x 12" with this size. Great for the comfort quilts. Set of 6 sample blocks below.

Hi, Linda - I have two sets cut for a 2x4 quilt but done using 2.5" strips. They have bern stalled - maybe your suggestive nudge today will move them along!

Ooh these blues and greens play very nicely with each other. Love the fluorescent green print on the black background - like a glow in the dark plant. I have seen that tutorial. I think it will be a perfect way to use up some ugly fabric (in my stash), combined with a strip of contrasting one.

I know what you mean about documenting. I took a year off from faithful blogging, and realized how much (after the fact) I used my blog to chronicle my quilting/crafting journey and how much was unavailable because of the break. Keep up the good work -- nice to meet you! :)

There may not be Ravelry for quilters, but there is a Quilters Knitting group ON Ravelry!! I'm one of the moderators and have had friends join Ravelry JUST to be part of the quilt group there. Stop by and visit (or join in the fun!) We just finished up the 2018 Mug Rug Swap. There is a UFO Club to help with working off those languishing projects and much more!

Isn't this a great pattern for showcasing our special fabrics. I'm in the middle of sewing blocks for my 2 x 4 and also I've used batiks!! Your colours speak of the ocean.

Nice to meet you, Linda. We visited Buffalo for the first time a year ago (the tail end of a Road Scholar program from Ottawa to Niagara) -- then, this year we were there again for a night on our way home from a trip to New England. We had roast beef on weck both times. :) I like the scrappy design you have in this post -- hopefully I can remember it as I confront an overfull basked of scrap strips. The Meet and Greet hop is proving to be great fun.

Scraps...what a great way to use them. I, too, collect but don't use them much. I need to use them...maybe I just need to start sewing them together.

I love reading Bonnie's blog every morning too! Her scrap saver system is wonderful, but definitely had to be tweaked for the sizes of squares/rectangles I usually use. Great way to use up your scraps!

I'm a Bonnie fan also but have not used her scrap user system. My scraps are in a huge laundry basket and I really need to do something with them. Enjoyed your Blog

There is a quilters' group like Ravelry that is getting started. Check out Quiltship.

Nothing better than having some kind of scrap control system. Bonnie sure knows how to do it. :-)

You're so right that it's too bad that quilters don't have anything similar to Ravelry. Thank you for inviting us over for a visit with you!

Hi, Linda,
I live in Avon, NY just south of Rochester. I've seen your comments on some of the blogs I follow and took notice that you were from Buffalo. My husband grew up in Buffalo. Anyway, it's great to learn more about you. I use a modified Bonnie Hunter system, too.
