Dreaming of sunflower fields

Wait a minute, I wasn't dreaming. Just north of Buffalo, a farming family opened a sunflower field to the public. Sunflowers Of Sanborn N.Y  on Facebook is the official site, local TV coverage, gives explanation for them. And the latest, the town they are in shut them down in some kind of Grinch moment. Unbelievable, the sunflowers and the letter from the town. The farmer family has grown crops there for years and with their own money, made a parking lot so people did not park on the street, does not charge an entrance fee, provided portapotties and sold some food (sales tax revenue for the town).
When I first arrived and walked through the first field, I just wept. It was so gorgeous even though a lot of the flowers had gone to seed. It was absolutely magic. I have always been in love with sunflowers and painted and made quilts of them. Oh, how sad if they cannot do this anymore.

Corn to the left, flowers to the right

The corn out to dry
Husband is 6'4", so you can see the flowers height

This was a three headed immense sunflower.
There were orange ones.
And red ones.
And fancy ones for you to cut bouquets.

What a treat to see....but what in the world is wrong with the Grinchs there? How far we have fallen as a community to take down good things.

Sunflowers have always been a favorite here too. Though ours are well past the pretty blooming stage, they happily provide seeds for the goldfinches, chickadees and nuthatches. And reward us with their happy songs.

Sunflowers are lovely. You'd think the town would appreciate them, especially since some of those people who come to visit, also spend $$$ in the town. Someone has a screw loose in that town, and it sure isn't the people growing the flowers.

I can't even imagine seeing so many sunflowers in one place. I think I need to plant some next year.
