One down quilted, a zillion more to go!

I was able to finish quilting an exploding squares comfort quilt, first of the year. I had cut the backing wrong and had to add a strip to make it fit. I had an extra block, so I used that also.
There is a woman in my guild who loathes pieced backs and I felt my heart sink when I knew I was going to present this at a meeting. But then, I thought, well it is like a modern quilt and so I will call it a reversible quilt and have a traditional and modern side and that is what I did. She still hated the back, but I felt wonderful about it.
Traditional side
Calling it a Modern Quilt, not a backing

I like your pieced back!! That lady may loathe them because she is either a member of the "quilt police" - or she's too lazy to try to make one herself - or some other reason only she knows - LOL - either way - it's YOUR quilt - not hers - ;))

You and I both like pieced backs better. If nothing else, it's a wonderful way to keep my fabric moving.

I love pieced quilt backs and yours is perfect.
I am sure the quilt recipient will love it, too!

And since when do you quilt for this person who hates pieced backs? Ever ask her why she detests pieced backs? Maybe her imagination stops when she finishes a top. Sorry to go on and on....I have a problem with judgmental quilt police:)
And with that out of the way, I love it. All the color and movement and that modern back is perfect!

I love it.... both sides! I'm happy to say that we don't have any police in our quilt club

Great finish Linda, the quilt has such a lot of movement with all the different fabrics. Love the back!!

I love your pieced back! I do lots of pieced backs so that the quilt can be reversible. Do what you love and let the opinions of the haters stay in their hearts, not in yours.

Great finish! I love to see pieced backings, but don't enjoy making them. :)

Good thing it isn't her quilt! It looks nice and your quilting makes it even better.

Honestly - she needs to get over it. NO ONE should need to worry about what they are showing to their quilt group because someone has such an absolute opinion about something! I think your quilt is wonderful. (and each of us is entitled to our own opinion, don't get me wrong, but our opinion should never interfere with someone else's creativity or problem solving solutions).

Let's call her Katty. Now, if I was in your place, I would proudly show off the front of my quilt and then just before showing the back, I'd announce to the guild - "Here is the back, as my homage to Katty" - Ta Da.
A pieced back is more work so I understand why Katty hates it.
For some of us it is a way to use up scraps, but in my opinion it is a design opportunity. I don't always make pieced backs, but when I do I make a big celebration out of them :-D
Buh bye Miss Katty.

If that lady doesn't like pieced backs, then that is her problem. Many people like pieced backs. Just like some people like art quilts, some like traditional, etc. Nice quilt in my opinion.
